William “Vic” Grooms, of Liberty, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was 81.
Vic was born in Casey County, KY on January 21, 1943, to the late William and Emma Jean Chelf Grooms.
He was a retired truck driver with Roadway, where he worked for 30 years. Vic grew up in Indiana, where he spent many years. He was a US Army veteran during Vietnam and belong to the VFW and American Legion in Indiana. Vic spent time farming, building houses and loved mowing yards. He was always working and if a neighbor needed help, he was always there. Vic was a member of First Christian Church of Liberty.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Vic is survived by his wife, Shirley Lee Grooms of Liberty; his son, Troy Grooms (and Elizabeth) of Wisconsin; his daughters, Angela Hughes (and Bob) of Indianapolis, IN and Sally Courtney (and Clint) of Jamestown, IN; his step-daughters, Marlice York of Liberty and Michelle Shrader (and Chris) of Columbia, TN; his brothers, Ron of Jeffersonville, IN and Larry (and Jennifer) of Camby, IN; his sisters, Paula of Port Orange, FL and Pam of Ft. Myers, FL; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM Thursday, January 23, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Stan McDougal officiating. The burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Casey County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Troy Grooms, Ron Grooms, Bob Hughes, Clint Courtney, Trevor Whitehead and Nic Zollner. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Lee, Mark Bastin, Larry Grooms and Jake Rayborn.
