Sue (Sweeney) Griffin

Sue Sweeney Griffin, of Liberty, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023, at her home. She was 79.

Born on October 18, 1943, in Liberty, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Garnett Jones Sweeney, M.D. and Virginia Bell Sweeney. Sue was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, and an active volunteer in the community. She was a member of First Christian Church and sang in the choir. She enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, The American Red Cross, and job placement for special needs adults.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Thompson Griffin, who she wed on December 28, 1965; two sons, Tom (Rebecca Smith) Griffin and Matt Griffin, both of Louisville; three grandchildren, Sam Griffin, Matthew Griffin, and Claire Griffin; and a brother, G.J. (Shelley) Sweeney, M.D. of Lexington.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Don Sweeney.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Steve Sweeney officiating.  

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Habitat for Humanity at 322 West Lamar Street, Americus, Georgia 31709.
