Shirley Lane Obituary

Shirley Ann Corn Lane, of Liberty, Kentucky, greeted her family in paradise on Sunday, August 31, 2025. It was only fitting because they had greeted her into this life 82 years previously on October 6, 1942.

Among those loved ones were her parents, Carol Price Corn and Lena Jane Patton; two sisters, Roxie Dalton and Helen Louise Bates (surviving); and four brothers, Herschel, Curtis, Hollis, and Fairley.

Shirley married Terrill Dowell A Ware (surviving) and had three children who loved her very much and will miss her greatly: Steven (Lois) Ware of Scottsburg, Indiana, Elizabeth Diane (Mark) Pierce of Kaysville, Utah and Malena (Brian) Shaw of Amelia, Ohio. These children brought the greatest joys to her life of nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Later, Shirley married Stanley Coy Lane and added a stepdaughter, Gina (Raymond) Rico of Molena, Georgia, along with two additional grandchildren and three additional great grandchildren.

One of Shirley’s favorite past times was golfing with Stanley. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, Hallmark movies, cooking for all the students and faculty at Casey County High School for 23 years, laughing until her stomach ached and her face hurt, serving others, hiking with her friends, talking to her sister Louise every night on the phone, bird watching, rides to doctor appointments with her niece Saphronia, all her friends at T.O.P.S, spending time with family (immediate and extended) and finding old cemeteries.

By many people, Shirley will be remembered as a good Christian woman. She was devoted to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a long-time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in the children, youth, and women’s organizations as well as taught Sunday School. She loved her “church family.”

The cause of Shirley’s death started with an extreme drop in sodium. One of her final wishes was to have everyone get their sodium level checked. She also asked that in lieu of flowers, you plant flowers, vegetables, or a tree, and contribute to this beautiful earth.

“Mom, thank you for making this world more beautiful just by being in it.”
