Ruby Jean Downs, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Casey County Hospital. She was 64.
Born on June 26, 1960, in Covington, KY, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Rodgers Tucker Denson.
Ruby loved being outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, working in her flowers and garden, playing cards, and loved to spend time with her husband and children.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Downs; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Higginbotham of Liberty; a brother, Henry Tucker of Russell Springs; three sisters, Ruthie Hatter of Liberty, Linda Thompson of Russell Springs, and Pauline Robinson of Russell Springs; three grandchildren, Shyann Wheat, Jacklyn Keith, and Allie Grace Pendleton; and six great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Aubrey, Sophia, Paisley, Presley, and Hazel Ann. Other survivors include two stepsons, Gary Owens of Liberty and Ray Owens of Jamestown.
In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by a daughter, Retheal Pemberton; two sisters, Mae Wheat and Barbara Tucker; and four brothers, Alvie Tucker, Gary Dewayne Tucker, Donnie Tucker and Charlie Summers.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Woodrum, William Appleby, Donnie Hatter, Buddy Thompson, William Phelps and Josh Summers.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Don Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 to 1:00 on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Memorial contributions may be made to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home to help the family offset funeral expenses.
