Phyllis Jane Grider Reese, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Bluegrass Assisted Living in Elizabethtown, KY. She was 83.
Born October 11, 1941, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Delmer and Pauline Martin Grider. Phyllis earned her college degrees from Campbellsville University and EKU. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher, having started working in a one room school. Phyllis then went on to work at various schools throughout Northern Kentucky.
Phyllis was a member of the Athens Church of Christ. She loved the ocean, gardening, flowers, traveling to Myrtle Beach, and quilting. Phyllis was very passionate about quilting. She was a member of the Casey County Quilter’s Guild and the Retired Teacher’s Association.
Survivors include her son, Phillip (and Alicia) Reese of Liberty; daughter, Peggy Reese Karshner of Crittenden; 3 grandchildren, Bobby Jo Bradford, Jessica Karshner, and Danielle Karshner; 3 great-grandchildren, Addison Lewis, Trinity Thompson, and Drake Ketterer; and her former son-in-law, Kenny Karshner.
Mrs. Reese was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Ray Reese; daughter, Paulette Perkins; brothers, Avalee and Charlie Monroe Grider; and sister, Mary Jo Carmicle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Brandon Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Contown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8PM Friday and Saturday after 8:00AM, both at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
The pallbearers will be her son, Phillip Reese, Michael Goode, Brandon McKinney, Josh Edwards, Dexter Wall, Bart Woodrum, and Tanner Edwards.
