Phillip Dean Obituary

Phillip Dean, of Casey County, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Liberty Care Center. He was 88.

Born March 31, 1936, in Merrimac, KY, he was a son of the David “Clem” Dean and Mary Elleen Noel Dean. Phillip retired after 27 years of serving his country in both the United States Air Force and United States Army. After the military, Phillip received his GED and went to college using his GI Bill.  He then went on to work several different places, including Corning, selling real estate, and teaching at Casey County High School. Phillip also owned and operated a Christmas tree farm for many years. He was a member, deacon, music leader, and Sunday School Teacher at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. In 2006, after many years of thought and hard work, Phillip wrote a book entitled “Creation – God’s Way”.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married August 13, 1987, Christine Lee Dean; daughter, Becky (and Gary) Becker; step-daughter, Donna Baxter (and Chris Shoopman); step-sons, Billy (and Phyllis) Baxter, Mark (and Sherry) Baxter, and Neil (and Brandy) Baxter; sisters, Janet McDonald, Shirley Joyce (and Ernie) Yaste, and Barbara Kay Dean; 6 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Bradford “Brad” Dean and Anthony Dean; brothers, George Wayne Dean and James Glen Dean; and grandsons, Andrew Dean and Matthew Dean.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, December 9, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Gale Durham and Bro. Dwight Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Peavey Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5-8PM Sunday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home and after 8:00AM Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Gary, Mark, Daniel, and Troy Becker, Adam Dean, Bradlee Henson, and Skyler Quinn.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.
