Millie Emerson Murphy, formerly of Liberty, passed away at her granddaughter’s home in Stanford, KY at 2:40AM on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was 106 years, 1 month, and 3 days old.
Born on Saturday, December 21, 1918, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Logan and Almedia Atwood Emerson. Millie was the widow of Hilery Ray Murphy, who passed away on July 1, 1989. They married on October 20, 1934.
Millie retired in 1974 from Western Electric Telephone Company and was a member of Westside Christian Church. She was known to make the best dried fried apple pies and was an avid quilter.
Millie is survived by two granddaughters, Carla (Larry) Simpson and Trena (the late Vernon) Rogers; five great grandchildren, Jaime Goff, Joshua (Emeral) Goff, Matthew (Meagan) Simpson, Lindsay (Andy) Johnson and Megan (Andrew Vanhook) Simpson; and 6 great-great grandchildren, Landon Johnson, Jasper Goff, Aubrey Johnson, Julie Vanhook, Elsie Goff and Harper Simpson. She was blessed to have several loving nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jewell Mae (Charles Goff and Clement Land) and Marguerite Fay (John Cummins and Russell Overstreet); her only grandson, Billy Ray Goff; all her siblings also preceded her in death, Elsie Rodgers, Nora Scott, Wesley Emerson, Art Farris, Nannie Wethington, Tom Emerson, Fannie Emerson, Flora Emerson, and unnamed infant child.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Shackleford officiating. Burial will follow in the Whited Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8PM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Wendell, Kent, Jack, and Frank Emerson, Matt Simpson, and Andrew Vanhook. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Wethington and Larry Simpson.
