Mary Alene (Posey) Hicks

Mary Alene Posey Hicks, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Casey County Hospital. She was 84.

Born on October 15, 1940, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Vitus and Helen Elizabeth Wethington Posey. Alene was a caregiver and enjoyed babysitting numerous children throughout her life. She also formerly worked at their sawmill and farm. She loved gardening, working in her flowers, cooking, and quilting.

She is survived by her husband, William Carl Hicks, of whom she wed on April 9, 1960; brothers, Frankie (Wilma) Posey, Vernon (Carla) Posey, and Gary (Connie) Posey; sisters, Betty (Billy) Terry, Patty (Lin) Higgs, and Alice (the late Kevin) McAleer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alene is preceded in death by three brothers, Freddy Posey, Winfrey Posey and Carroll Posey; and two sisters, Loeta Posey and Pauline Posey.

Pallbearers will be Brian Johnson, Brad Johnson, Joey Marples, Adam Hicks, Bobby Joe Williams and Mark Wethington.

 Honorary pallbearers will be Martha Wethington, Aslan Wethington, Layla Wethington, Amanda Marples and Hannah Marples.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father Jinto Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
