Marcenia Brown Obituary

Marcenia Brown, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her home. She was 76.

Born April 30, 1949, in Danville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Howard Lee Carmicle, Sr. and Beatrice Mae Rodgers Carmicle. Marcenia was a longtime teacher and principal, having worked at various schools including Douglas Elementary School, Liberty Elementary School, Casey County Middle School, and Middleburg Elementary School. She received her Bachelor’s degree in education from Campbellsville and her Masters and Rank 1 from EKU. Marcenia also worked at the Casey County Board of Education main office and was involved with the drama clubs in Casey County.

In addition to being a pastor’s wife, Marcenia held many positions at the First Baptist Church of Liberty. She was a Sunday School teacher, drama leader, Judgement House director, organist, assistant pianist, Hands of Faith leader, and active in the Choir.

Survivors include her husband, whom she wed on June 10, 1973, Bro. Jimmy Brown of Liberty; sons, Rustin Brown of Louisville, Aaron Brown (and Shelley) of Mentor, OH; and Matthew Brown of Liberty; daughter, Rachel Smallwood-Brown (and Jamie) of Liberty; 8 grandchildren, Grace Mason, Brooklyn Brown, Logan Mason, Annie Brown, Jaxon Brown, Jace Brown, Jaydon Brown, and Aubrey Smallwood; brother, Howard “Jakie” Carmicle, Jr. (and Kathy) of Middleburg, FL; and sister, Debbie Newsom (and G.W.) of Clemson, SC.

Marcenia was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ryan Brown; twin infant brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Carmicle; and sister, Marcentia Carmicle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, December 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 300 Hustonville Street, Liberty, KY 42539 with both her husband, Bro. Jimmy Brown and her brother, Bro. Jakie Carmicle officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until 2:00PM on Friday at First Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church Faith Center, Post Office Box 58, Liberty, KY 42539.

Pallbearers will be Rustin Brown, Aaron Brown, Matthew Brown, G.W. Newsom, Logan Mason, and Jaxon Brown.
