Obituary

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Larry W. Johnson. Larry passed away June 12, 2020, in the arms of his loving wife, Becky. He is gone too soon, but he is at peace and God has a precious new songbird/angel in his keep. Larry was born in Lebanon, Kentucky, to the late Lewis Howard Johnson and Alois Alleen Shreve Johnson. 

Larry loved his higher power and the Program of Recovery. From the brink of death, he chose recovery and had been sober for 11years. He Loved his family, his Children/Stepchildren, his Wife and Grandchildren. Larry loved his guitar, and in days gone by, it was his best friend. Larry was a tunesmith, he wrote songs and sang, and he won many awards for his words and music. He came to Nashville, Tennessee, as a songwriter and his first big hit was recorded by Tim McGraw in 1994 “Don’t Take The Girl”. He was a Friend to All, He gave Graciously, and he Loved So Big! 

He bravely battled cancer over the last two years as well as having COPD and an aortic aneurysm. He was a fighter, and now he is at rest. 
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Richard “Rick” Johnson and sister, Debbie Benedict. He is survived by his wife, Becky Rogers Tishman (Johnson); sons, Joshua (Jennifer) Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Shane (Adrienne) Davis, and Joshua Davis; daughter, Ginnifer (Sean Rethlake) Line; brother, Tim Johnson; sisters, Judy Somerville, Vicki (John) Price and Peggy Long; and 9-grandchildren. There will be a private family funeral with burial in Neptune-Smith Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held at a later date.
