Joyce Wanda Smithers

Joyce Wanda Smithers, of Covington, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Seasons of Alexandria in Alexandria, Kentucky. She was 79.

Born on November 5, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Sterling and Marie Buck Smithers. Joyce was a retired Elementary School teacher. She taught from the years 1969-2000 and greatly enjoyed that time teaching her students. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Joyce was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Judy Smithers of Covington; a brother, David Smithers of Hustonville; nieces, Melissa (Chris) Brown of Liberty and Deborah (David) Kimery of Marietta, Georgia; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sterling Smithers II; a nephew, Jody Smithers; and her dog, Scooter.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
