Hershel Lee Murphy, Sr.

Hershel Lee Murphy, Sr., of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was 82.

Born on May 31, 1943, in Casey County, Ky, he was a son of the late Arthur and Vera Wall Murphy. He was a retired timber cutter and logger. He was a former custodian for Casey County Middle School, where he worked for 12 years. Hershel attended the 910 Full Gospel Church and enjoyed coon hunting in his younger years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalee Murphy, who he married on May 13, 1961; two sons, Kevin Murphy and Kent Murphy, both of Liberty; two daughters, Teresa (and Mark) Holt and Lisa Michelle (and Joe) Cox, both of Liberty; a brother, Arthur (and Loretta) Murphy, Jr. of Dunnville; three sisters, Joyce Underwood of Florida, Seleda George of Jamestown and Rhonda McFarland of Campbellsville; eight grandchildren, Justin, Chasity, Zach, Josh, Angela, Jacob, Issac and Brittany; 12 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Bryson, Brayden, Chloe, Ryder, BlakeLee, Addy, Teddy, Willow, Charlotte, Brentley and Tanner; and a great-great-grandson, Sawyer.

He is preceded in death by a son, Hershel Lee “Esau” Murphy, Jr; a brother, Harold Murphy; three sisters, Elizabeth Orient, Joy Wethington and Paulette Lay; and four grandchildren, Michael Holt, Michelle Holt, Jordan Corn and Tristan Murphy.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the 910 Full Gospel Church with Bro. Kelly Burton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in 910 Full Gospel Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 910 Full Gospel Church.

Pallbearers will be Zach Murphy, Justin Murphy, Josh Wilham, Jacob Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Kent Murphy, Joe Cox and Mark Holt.
