Donald Woodburn Richardson, of Madisonville, Kentucky, formerly of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Redbanks Colonial Terrace in Sebree. He was 87.
He was born on October 26, 1937, in Hart County, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Clarence W. and Marie Robertson Richardson.
Don grew up in Hart County and enjoyed spending his childhood working on a farm. He graduated from Munfordville High School Class of 1955. He then went to Western Kentucky University for his pre-pharmacy studies and finished his schooling at the University of Kentucky Pharmacy school. After graduating, he worked at Begley Drugs and Sallens Drugs. He then moved to Liberty, KY, where he worked for Liberty Drug. Don retired from Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He also worked as a relief pharmacist for numerous years before his illness became an issue. He loved pharmacy with all his heart and worked many long and devoted hours.
Don was an amazing Christian man. He carried a New Testament Bible and a guide to lead others in the plan of salvation. He loved Jesus and made a profession of faith at Rowlett’s Baptist Church when he was a young man. When he led his daughter to the Lord, he felt his life was complete. He was a judge at “Judgement House” productions at First Baptist Church of Liberty, where he was also a deacon, for several years. He was gentle and soft-spoken, unless he was in the judge’s seat.
He was an avid UK basketball fan. Don’s favorite book was the Bible, and he had many nights of devotion with his family. His favorite place to wander was the Great Smoky Mountains with his sweetheart, Anna. His favorite food was anything that Anna had cooked. He also enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting. He had countless adventures going on fishing trips as a family to Dale Hollow, KY Lake, or Lake Cumberland.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Anna Porter Roy, who he wed on September 10, 1960; a son, Kevin (Marsha) Richardson of Independence; a daughter, Donna (David) Adams of Madisonville; four grandchildren, Allison Adams, Emilee (Kaleb) Giffin, Alex (Sabrina) Adams, and Lukas Richardson; four great-grandchildren, Paislee, Parker, Kenlee, and Lennon; a sister, Kathy Eiler of Munfordville; and a sister-in-law, Anita Richardson of Rowletts.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Randy Richardson.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. EST on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. EST to 2:00 P.M. EST on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Per Anna’s wishes, donations in Don’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Liberty. To truly honor his memory, we urge you to catch a ballgame with your son, take a walk in the woods with your granddaughter, tell a good story, take a trip with your sweetheart, share a good laugh with a friend, or most of all- share the love of Jesus in all that you do.
Don wished to thank Crystal Littlepage and all of his wonderful caregivers at Redbanks Colonial Terrace in Sebree, who loved him so deeply for the past three and a half years.
