Chaz R. McGowan, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in Grafenwohr, Germany. He was 26.
Born on February 9, 1999, in Danville, Kentucky, he was a son of Marty Leon McGowan and Kelly Evans McGowan.
Chaz was actively serving in the United States Army’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment as an Infantryman. During his time in the service, Chaz earned the following achievements: Expert Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
He was a 2018 graduate of Casey County High School. Chaz enjoyed working out and was an avid gamer. He was a member of Mt. Olive Christian Church.
He is survived by his parents, Marty (and Andrea) McGowan and Kelly (and Rob O’Brien) Evans McGowan; siblings, Jake (and Morgan Smith) McGowan, Brody McGowan, Elle McGowan, Cory O’Brien, and Kimberly O’Brien; maternal grandparents, Greg and Kernetta Evans; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Linda Salyers; godparents, Sherry and Barry Mullins; uncles, Jamie (and Bobbie) McGowan, Justin (and Holly) Salyers, and Jeremy Evans; an aunt, Becky (and Scott) Mullins; and a host of additional family members and friends.
Chaz is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wendell and Judy McGowan.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Glenwood Cemetery with Bro. Greg Powell officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Fort Knox Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. There will be no visitation on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
