Buddy Long Obituary

Buddy Long, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Liberty. He was 87.

Born on March 3, 1938, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Steve Blevins and Mary Lou Taylor Long. Buddy proudly served his country for twenty years in the United States Air Force as a Boom Operator. He loved to fly. Buddy attended Campbellsville College and later went on to do numerous things such as: substitute teaching, driving a bus, managing the Ambulance Service, working for the Department of Corrections, truck driving, and loved being a foster parent. He greatly enjoyed drinking a good cup of coffee as he told years’ worth of world-wide stores from all his time traveling, and Buddy also liked to read. He touched many lives throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by sons, Mark (Margaret) Long, Lionel (May) Long, Loren (Laura) Long, Tommy Long and Jonathan Shewmaker (Jennifer); daughters, Ashley (John) Blevins, Rachel (James) Evans and Sylvia Stinson; a brother, Dean Long; countless foster children; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by his first wife, Zaide Elizabeth Tuxill Long; second wife, Diann Rowe Long; son, Stanton Long; daughter, Leeza Long; seven brothers; and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
