Betty Bastin Obituary

Betty Lee Woodrum Bastin, of Liberty, went to her heavenly home on Friday, July 4, 2025.

Born on February 17, 1939, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Rena Grant Woodrum. Betty professed her faith in Christ and was born again many years ago. She was a member of Carr’s Chapel First Church of God in Liberty. She was a beautician and said that going to beauty school in the 1950’s in Louisville was a favorite memory she had and was possibly even the best time of her life. In addition to working as a beautician, Betty also dedicated twenty-four years of her life as a loving caretaker to her parents. She enjoyed working puzzles, word scrambles, and sitting on the porch bird watching. She loved Charlie Pride and was so happy that when she got to see him, he shook her hand.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Bastin of Hustonville; her daughter, Beverly (and Rick) Turner of Danville; her son, Bruce (and Kimberly) Edwards of Liberty; her grandchildren, Byron Edwards, Lindsey (and Jeff) Duggins, Ansley (and James) Tait, Jenna (and Matt) Honchel, George (and Ginger) Emerson, and Ronald “Pedro” (and Melissa) Satterly; and her great-grandchildren, Colton, Ivy, Luke, Wyatt, Walker, Winter, Treyton, Alyssa, and Hunter. Additional survivors include the father of her children, Beckham Edwards of Wilmore; her best friend, Viva Lee of Liberty; special caregivers, Barbara Wethington, Gayle Emerson, and Natalia Yazell; her grandpup, Winnie; and dog, Kane.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Woodrum and Bobby Woodrum; grandson, Quincy Emerson; and granddaughter, Mistie Emerson.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Carr’s Chapel First Church of God with Bro. J.R. Grant and Bro. Stevie Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Salyers Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Carr’s Chapel First Church of God and from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, also at the church.

Pallbearers will be Byron Edwards, Rick Turner, George Emerson, Ronald Satterly, Brett Woodrum, and Bart Woodrum.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to either the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 OR Hospice of Lake Cumberland at 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 452503, in Mrs. Betty Bastin’s Memory.
