Bertha Rae “Bert” Vest, of Liberty, reached her heavenly home on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Casey County Hospital. She was 86.
Born on August 17, 1939, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Melvin C. and Beulah Rose Wesley Hatter. Bert attended Cowden’s Chapel Church of God. She was a former teachers aid at Middleburg Elementary and also worked at McDonalds, Grant’s Shoe Store, and for Dr.’s Sweeney and Dr. Wesley. Most recently she was a homemaker and loved caring for her family above all. Bert enjoyed sewing, baking cakes, and a good Dr. Pepper or Ale-8-One.
She is survived by a son, Gary (and Norma) Vest of Liberty; four grandchildren, Jason Vest of Springfield, Justin (and Meghan) Vest of Danville, Brian (and Ashley) Vest of Liberty, and Sara (and Chad) Davenport of Liberty; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Abigail, Maggie, Lauren, and Lucy. Other survivors include two sisters, Mildred (and the late John S.) Hatter of Liberty and Judy (and Gary) Zachary of Danville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Vest, who passed away on May 24, 2020; and a son, Jeff Vest.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Cochran, Bro. Johnny Maupin, and Bro. Dwight Hatter officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
