Bernita Murphy Obituary

Bernita Rochelle Murphy, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Casey County Hospital. She was 87.

Born on May 9, 1938, in Taylor County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Bessie Bowles Rash. Bernita formerly worked as a housekeeper, Childcare Director at Nanny’s Daycare, and in the floral department at Food World. She loved all children, especially babies. She was lovingly known as “Nanny”. Bernita also greatly enjoyed flowers and Christmas time.

She is survived by her husband, Marion Ancil Murphy of Liberty; two sons, Mark (and Donna) Murphy of Liberty and Mike (and Angela) Murphy of Somerset; a daughter, Marsha (and Wallace) Payton of Liberty; three sisters, Dwalla Akridge of Campbellsville, Beverly Rodgers of Campbellsville, and Fonda (and Greg) Weintrout of Indiana; a brother, Melvin (and Gina) Rash of Florida; six grandchildren, Becky (and Mark) Hinkle, Natasha (and Brian) McQueary, Jessica (and Pete) McQueary, Demi (and Harvey) Toebbe, Bryley (and Kendall) Murphy, and Grayson Murphy; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Gum Lick Cemetery with Bro. Steve Martin officiating.
