Vernon L. “Cricket” Rogers, of Perryville, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was 72.
Born on April 2, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late June Rogers Thompson. Vernon was a retiree from the Kentucky Department of Corrections Northpoint Training Center. Vernon was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served in the United States Army and the Kentucky National Guard. He was a loving husband and brother. Vernon loved his motorcycle, animals and camping.
He is survived by his loving wife, Trena Cummins Rogers, whom he wed on February 15, 1991; a son, Robert Lee Rogers of Bardstown; a grandson, Ryan Lee Rogers of Junction City; a sister, Crystal (Jerry) Thompson of Simpsonville; and a brother, James (Martha) Thompson of Mt. Washington. Other survivors include his beloved niece, Megan Simpson; nephew, Matthew (Meagan) Simpson; and his great-niece, Julie Vanhook.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his loving grandparents that raised him, Vernon and Eva Lee Wilkerson Rogers.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Shackleford officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Marion County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
Cricket’s pallbearers will be John R. Mattingly, Scott Barlow, Matthew Simpson, Danny Bottom, Lonnie Matlock and Anthony Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Allen and Frank Sheene.
