Carl Grant Tipton, of Russell Springs, formerly of Dunnville, departed from this life on July 27, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 73 years old at the time of his passing.
Born on October 7, 1944, in Powell County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Hubert and Attie Rodgers Tipton. Carl moved to Lexington in his early teenage years with his family where he played basketball for Lexington Junior High School and football for Henry Clay High School. Soon after, he felt compelled to join the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and ended up faithfully serving 2 tours before receiving an honorable discharge from the military.
After his military service was over he worked as a licensed plumber for a few years and later started his own roofing business, which was called Tipton’s Roofing Company. He successfully ran this company for many years until he retired and moved to Dunnville, Kentucky in 1991. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, dirt track racing and being on the lake, in his pontoon, with his family and friends. Carl was an avid bowler for many years, until he was diagnosed with cancer, and accomplished bowling 2 perfect, ABC sanctioned, 300 games as an amateur bowler.
He is survived by his sons, Reggie (Ashley) Tipton of Windsor; Kevin Tipton of Paris and Roger Barber of Lexington; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Tipton, Brittney Barber, Maranda Barber, Brandy (Abi) Garcia Dominguez, Owen, Evan, Attyson Kate, Anslee and Avery Tipton; and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Glenna “Jody” Tipton of Lexington, who he was married to for more than 30 years of his life and his girlfriend Pam Cummings of Russell Springs and all of her children and grand-children, which he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents Carl was preceded in death by 4 brothers Lenille, Roland and Johnny Meadows and Hubert Tipton Jr. and 2 sisters, Lorene Meadows and Ann McKay; 1 daughter-in-law Sherry Barber.
